Perkins Local School District, located just south of Sandusky, Ohio, serves approximately 1,900 students in preschool through grade 12. The Perkins Local School District is located in Perkins Township and also contains parts of five contingent townships (Groton, Huron, Margaretta, Milan, and Oxford.) Originally a rural school district, most of the district's students now live in a suburban setting. The district has four buildings: Furry Elementary (Grades Preschool-2), Meadowlawn Intermediate Elementary (Grades 3-5), Briar Middle School (Grades 6-8), and Perkins High School (Grades 9-12). The Perkins High School student body has a population that is 82% white, 6% two or more races, 5% Hispanic, 4% African American, and 3% Asian.
Perkins High School is a comprehensive four-year public high school enrolling 588 students in grades 9–12. The high school was completed in 1958 and graduated its first senior class in the spring of 1961. Perkins High School is accredited by the Ohio Department of Education. Perkins is one of the Erie County Local School Districts and serves as an associate school of EHOVE Career Center. Perkins is a member of the Sandusky Bay Conference, in the Lake Division, joining schools such as Bellevue, Clyde, Norwalk, Sandusky, Tiffin and Vermilion.
The academic program is organized on a modified block schedule. Seven credits per semester is the maximum course load. Perkins High School offers the following AP courses: Art Studio, Calculus AB and BC, Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, Economics, English Literature and Composition, Government and Politics: United States, Music Theory, Physics A, Psychology and World Geography. AP is an open-enrollment program. Honors classes are offered in English 1, 2, 3, 4; Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre Calculus; Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry. Perkins High School also offers College Credit Plus options through the University of Findlay on campus for the following courses: Literature, United States History, Political Science, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Marine Science, Physics, Statistics, Accounting and Personal Finance.
